Located in the north and the south,with 70 metres of each,there're 2 bridgeheads.There,there are elevators connected to the railway bridge,high way bridge and the watchtower of the bridgehead.In front of each bridgehead,a sculpture of worker,famer and soldier stands tall.And there is a beautiful park beneath the south one.
Since 1960,a great number of workers had devoted themselves to building the bridge which cost 180 million yuan for 8 years.With 500 thousand tons of cement and 1 million tons of steel,the world-famous Changjiang Bridge is done.
On Dec.18th,1968,China managed to design and build up the traffic of Changjiang Bridge independently,which symbolized an outbreak of the bridge construction of China.After that,the Changjiang Bridge was one of the Guinness World Records.The successful construction of Nanjing Changjiang Bridge decreases the time from one hour and a half by ship to 2 minutes by train which rushing between the north and south.Further more,it makes the transport of materials and people on Changjiang River more convenient and it is of great significance in accelerating the economy and improving people's life in China.
