For over two months they made their way up the mountain.They faced the cold weather and strong winds with snow.Tents,sleeping bags,food—everything they used had to be carried.The temperature dropped to 40 degrees below zero.Still they struggled on,and climbed steep ice walls smooth as glass.The lack of oxygen made their breathing painful,as if they had run for miles.Each step required great efforts of body and mind.
