昆曲（Kunqu）是中国传统戏剧中最古老的剧种之一.它产生于明朝(the Ming Dynasty)初期,盛行于明清,迄今已有六百多年的历史.我国很多传统剧种,包括京剧,都是在昆曲的基础上发展起来的.因此,昆曲有“中国戏曲之母”的雅称.2001年,昆曲被联合国教科文组织(UNESCO)列入第一批“人类口头和非物质遗产代表作”（the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity）名单.中国成为首次获此殊荣的19个国家之一.
