ties code. The pressureinside the reactor is controlled and
regulated with a backpressure controller (BPC; Brooks 5866
series). A rupture disk islocated before the BPC for safety
reasons. A bypass is usedto achieve the desired pressure inside
the reactor more rapidly.The liquid phase is fed in through a
syringe pump (Teledyne ISCOmodel 500D), connected to a
pressure transducer andcomputer controlled. The syringe
temperature can becontrolled. Gas and liquids mix at a
T-connection before thereactor. A regulation valve is used to
sample the instantaneousliquid phase, while a 1.5 L tank
provides gas-liquidseparation, accumulating all the liquid
product. All the piping ismade of stainless steel AISI 316, 1/8
in. size. The catalyst bed(0.5 cm long) is placed between two
quartz wool plugs. Abovethe upstream quartz wool plug, quartz
sand is used to improvemixing. Temperature inside the reactor
is measured with aK-thermocouple before the catalyst bed. The
apparatus is in a fumehood, with a H2 sensorthat can
automatically switch off H2 flow to the reactor.
H2O2 Experiments and Analyses. H2O2 decomposition and
hydrogenation wereinvestigated first, at 10 bar and -10 °C,
with 0.5% H2O2 in methanol as the liquid phase, varyingits
flow rate (0.5, 1, and 2mL/min). The gas mixture was either
N2/CO2 (20/80% mol) for pure decomposition, or H2/N2/CO2
(2/18/80% mol) forhydrogenation experiments (N2 replaces O2),
varying its flow rates (0.1, 1, 2, 2.7, 4, 6, 9,and 12 mL/min)
