Lin said he ( had seen me at the bookstore the day before).
为什么要把saw改为had seen?把yesterday 改为the day before?

因为主句和从句的时态要一致,主句是SAID,过去时,那么从句也要用过去的某种时态,又因为他是在说这句话之前的某个时刻看到说话者,是过去的过去,用过去完成时.
在过去完成时中,yesterday应当换成the day before
