Don carried on with one of those many romances of the dead bodies and the fears,of attack-ing and retreating armies,and of the regiment of which only the lucky ones came through.Don had joined up with New Zealanders who had fallen back and reinforced the enemy and then escaped back to us.I'd absorbed quite a lot of wine by this time and my entry of Don's adventures in my diary,I found later,was very incomplete.
