The common points shared by Valentine’s Day and Double-Seventh Day is that both of them are celebrated as lover’s day,in which people will give gifts such as candy,roses,and chocolates to the people they like today,many people today even chose this day to make a proposal for their love and marriage during these two days.
Both of them are traditional festivals and have been celebrated for several thousand years,especially today in this highly developed world,both of them have been internationalized and are accepted by many people from different country and culture.
After we know clearly about the origin of the China’s Double-seventh Day and Valentine’s Day,differences appear in many aspects such as original society background,people’s way of thinking,and even some essential ones.China’s double-seventh day and Valentine’s Day are different in many aspects from past to pretence,and also in the way of their celebrating and the custom of the festival.
First,those two festivals are different from their origins.China’s Double-seven Day was originated in China’s agricultural society in which all the information of the festivals was about China’s country life including the old ox,the way to find a wife and the weaving maid,the work,and the details of the story developments.which means all the things happen in that time when china people was very believe in natural heaven .This is different from the west valentine’s day,which was originated during the time when people are deep ingrained inbuilt god and Jesus Christ in their mind.As we all know that china’s god was different from western gods
The way of celebrating those two festivals are different .In old china,in the story,this day was sent by the god to let the weaving maid and the cowherd to get together and see each other once a year.The story was tragedy .So the meaning people celebrating this day was to bless the couple.What’s more,every year in Seventh July,mostly it will rain,so legend go that the rain on that day was the tears of the couples who miss each other and haven’t seen for a year.People in this day bless the couple to stay together forever,at the same time they prey themselves to have someone to miss and love and wait.Because the weaving maid in the story was very good at weaving,this was very important in the old china for girls.Thus,at double-seventh day,the girls would gather in a square with the stars shining in the sky.they put holding needles and thread from behind to compete,the first one to thread the needle would be blessed by the weaving maid,they also will display their caved melons such as gold fish flowers and exquisite building and the best skilled cookies or delicacies.
