Why do I keep on learning English?
I have learned English since I was twelve. I keep it as a habit which I am proud of. I have never done another thing for eighteen years. Although till now my work has nothing to do with English, and it is hard for me to find any situation to use the language, I still keep on reading the English Digest, listening to the English news and sometimes recite the New Concept English texts.
During my school time, I learned it in order to pass the exams and get degrees. I like to find the right choice to get a high score in the English test even though I did not know what it really means. I get much confidence in the tests. I even believe that I must have some talent in learning language.
When I left school, I keep on learning in the thought that I have done so much in this work and it would be a great loss if I give up. At the same time I was inspired by the success of other English learners and in the hope that "If there is somebody can do, I can."
But gradually I realized that I have wasted so much time in learning a skill I do not need, and moreover, with an improper and inefficient way. There is no shortage of advisors to tell how important English is at the so called global age. But language is only a tool for communication and it is meaningless unless I use it for communication.
I used to hope that I can speak English as fluently as Chinese, and seriously believe that with effort and patience I will get to it someday. But now I am not so certain whether it is necessary when I failed to find a job which requires fluent English. Obviously two ways ahead, one, give up and save time for some other thing; the other, continue and find the opportunity to practice. Choose the best answer from the choices.
