一、关于短暂性和延续性的讨论
1、任何事物都不会是绝对存在的,短暂性和延续性也是如此,只能说动词表示不同意思时存在相对的短暂性或延续性.
比如,stop 一般情况下相爱是瞬时动词,但是在一定的条件下它又会变成延续性的,如:
* The clock stopped at some point during the night. 时钟停在晚上的某时刻.(由于时钟是at some point 这种条件下停走并保持不动的,因此 stop 与延续性状语during the night 连用变成了延续性动词)
* He had to stop at an exciting place in the book for some time. 他读书时禁不住在精彩处停留一会儿.(同上,at an exciting place的条件使得他就可以停留for some time)
再如,turn和put常常用作瞬间动词,但是用在turn on和put off等情况下就成了延续性的.如:
* Turn on the blender for about two minutes. 启动搅拌机,让它运转二分钟左右.( turn 指启动时的瞬间动作,副词 on 指处于或进入运行状态中,turn on the blender 是用一个瞬间开启的动作,使搅拌机进入并处于运行状态中)
* They decided to put the meeting off until after Christmas. 他们决定把会议推迟到圣诞节以后.(put指开始安排时的瞬间动作,副词off 指处于脱离会议的延续状态,put the meeting off是用一个瞬间安排的动作,使会议进入推迟的状态)
2、同理,drive, bike, ride虽然含义各有侧重,但都表示“驾驶/骑/乘”.有的情况下,它们我可能是瞬间动作,在另外的情况下,它们又是延续性的.如:
He rides (bikes, rides) across. 他开车(骑车)走过.——瞬间
He drives (bikes, rides) to work. 驾车(骑车)上班.——延续
This bike drives (bikes, rides) well.这辆车好骑.——延续
He has been biking for 15 years,这样看好像是延续性动词了.——延续
3、究竟是是短暂的还是延续性的动词,需要看句子表达的意思,而不是强行规定.
二、修饰动词、形容词或其他副词是副词的功能,a bit 当然应该具有这种功能.如:
Move up a bit. 向上挪一点儿——修饰动词move
a bit warm. 有点热——修饰形容词warm
a bit too hard to explain 解释起来似乎有点难以启齿 ——修饰副词too hard
