查了下资料,确实有点confusing,是这样的,
美国英国对于小数后面用单数和复数的情况都有.
美国出版局的界定是,-1 到 1 之间的小数用单数,以外的用复数.
比如说There was a melon.Now there are 0.3 melons.这样就很奇怪,所以-1到1 用单数来处理这种情况就更合理.There is 0.3 melon.
另一种解释是,0.3 melon 等于 0.3 of a melon,所以本质上还是a melon,即单数.
但是在做数据的时候,比如central bank of UK英国中央银行的报表里写道“The previous change in Bank Rate was a reduction of 0.5 percentage points to 0.5% on 5 March 2009.”
注意里面的0.5 percentage points用了复数
而德国中央银行German central bank 的报表里这样写：“The standardised unemployment rate rose by 0.3 percentage point to 9.9%,compared with 8.0% a year earlier and 7.2% in March 2008.”
所以小数的单复数应该是都可以的,用在数据上都没问题,如果用在东西上,-1到1之间用单数.不客气 ; )
