Animal cells can be made to grow in two in two basically different modes .most animal cells be induced to divide if they are first allowed to attach to a surface or solid substratum ,while some can be induced to grow freely in suspension .the former are called monolayer cells because they generally from a layer one cell thick on the substratum ,though under conditions of continuous medium renewal tissue several layers think can form .cells which can grow independently of a substratum are referred to as suspension cells or anchorage-independent cells .
