In the contemporary society, people’s huge reliance on petrol is out of imagination, for instance for the use of cars or being the raw material of paper making, etc. However, petrol brings about traffic and pollution problems that disturb citizens’ and the environment’s health for ages. Thereby a fierce debate has been arisen --- whether increasing the price of gasoline is the best practice to minimize the existing traffic and pollution problems?

It has proved that higher the price of a thing is, lower the demand on it will be, and this concept can also be applied on petrol. Once people find it hard to afford to the costly petrol, they world search for other alternatives that will be in accordance to their need to serve the same function gasoline does. In the way, not only is growing pollution and traffic problems solved, but also it slows down the depletion of the petrol.

Admittedly, for those who work remotely increasing the price of petrol in the hope of reducing the consumption of it seems not a good solution to them. Since without which, it will take them hours to commute to their workplace for sure. Nevertheless, the policy of increasing petrol cost applies to every walk of lives. They should not be exceptions. By the way, I suppose that promotions that suggest the mass make good use of public transports, such as bus or the railway should be held more frequently in attempting to minimize the discharge of pollutant from burning petrol.

In conclusion, I believe the best solution of solving growing traffic and pollution problems is to increase the price of gasoline. In addition, it may be helpful if the responsible authorities focus on the promotions that educate people to use public transportation more.
