With rapid development of transportation and weapons technology,more casualties were experienced than ever.There were several war technologies being created during WWI,including dirigibles,field guns,fighter planes,submarines,and poison gas.
Dirigibles were a kind of airships filling with gas.Germany used it for seeking and bombing tasks while Britain used smaller frameless ones to protect their ships from attacking by submarines.Also,Germany’s “Big Bertha” artillery was an example showing bigger field guns played an important role in attacking other countries in WWI.Often,the shells being fired were filled with shrapnel and explosives.In addition,fighter planes were used to attack instead of finding the enemy.Engineers even invented an interrupter system for avoiding chopping off the plane’s own wooden propeller.Germany’s U-boats were also mentionable because it travelled faster than most ships and crew could use periscopes to view situations above water.They used torpedoes to sink enemy as well.When the Allies were digging trenches,Britain invented tanks that could both attack and shelter while crossing no man’s land.Last but not least,poison gas was first being used by Germany during WWI.Later,both sides used phosgene gas and mustard gas.For protecting soldiers from poisonous gas,anti-gas respirator was invented.
