我想楼主应该是把surprised理解为形容词了,其实在这里它是一个动词.它的意思可以为：1.使惊奇,使诧异2.意外发现[撞见],出其不意获得
所以这句子是使用了被动语态(be+动词过去分式),by后接动词的使动方,既然后面引出了view,那么by不能去掉
