The human resources department was divided from the former administration department in Sep.2009.It had only three members at that time.As the company grows,more heads are needed,so the body becomes larger and now there are seven persons working in the HR department.
We encountered many problems when the department was set up.Though we had similar experience in recruiting and firing workers,etc.,we were not professional.In 2010,influenced by the economic crisis,our company decided to reduce the staff,and we were the department that were responsible for dismissing workers.We all had little idea how to skilfully talk to the ones that were on the retrenchment list.We know it was hard for them to be dismissed.We felt sorry for them,too.However,we must do it for the good of our company.We read many books,laws,and regulations on this matter,and consulting senior HR in other companies.After this preparation,we worked out a detailed plan which includes the compensation planning.Then we organized a meeting with people on the list.We explained completely the situation our company was in,why they were on the list while not the others,and what compensation they would expect from the company if they accepted the dismissal.
Out of our expectation,this meeting achieved a great success.Most workers responded positively to our suggestions and accepted our compensation.All the HR department members learned a lot from this experience.
